You can be Next iOS Hacker by Helping Pod2g for his WWJC Speech Poll

Like last year, this year something great is coming towards you. An event in which you can double your chance to meet the Dev-Team and The Chronic-Dec Team, the real heroes behind the hard work of Jailbreak and different tools. This year, they all are going to come at one place called WWJC (World Wide Jailbreak Convention) that was previously called MyGreatFest. Many of you won’t be aware of this name because this happened in 2011’s fall where the creator of Cydia (Saurik) and the Chronic-Dev Team members (P0sixninja and iOPK) came for a speech. A part from them, many more developers of different platforms also came for a great speech.

This year, the iOS hackers of the Jailbreak community will be joining up at WWJC to perform different speeches. Last year the venue was in U.K and this year, guess what? The venue is coming to home land of Apple called San Francisco. The venue will be The South San Francisco Conference Center, where all the iOS hackers and iDevice lovers will meet face to face.

To make this thing happen, @Jailbreakcon team is working hard to make it possible. Meanwhile, @pod3g, the French iOS hacker who worked on the iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4S, iPad 3, iPad 2 and A4 Devices with the dream team have setuped a poll on his blog regarding the topic of speech that you want him to talk about on this years WWJC. The topics are as follow:

History of jailbreaks and exploits since 2007
    Bootrom / iBoot exploitation
    Userland exploitation
    Vulnerability research
Explanation of iOS security features in detail
    Exploitation of common vulnerabilities
    Other (tell me on twitter)

The topics are really interesting for the speech and you must be more interested in any one of these topics for the speech. The choice is yours. Vote for the best topic you like to hear about. Do keep in mind that this year WWJC will for sure bring some new iOS experts in the field. Someone out of you might be more interested in learning about iOS that he becomes the next member of the jailbreak community. You never know when you can get lucky. You can select the topic from here.

On the other hand the tickets for WWJC are on sale. Grab one for yourself now before they are sold. The date will be Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (PT). We will be going live for this year WWJC. You can book your WWJC tickets from here now.

  • Sn0wbreeze 2.9.5 Released With the Support of iOS 5.1.1 (9B208)

Sn0wbreeze 2.9.5 Released With the Support of iOS 5.1.1 (9B208)

Following the trend of the Jailbreak community, ih8sn0w the person behind Sn0wbreeze tool updated t for the support of iOS 5.1.1 the day before. The same day, Apple released a mysterious build for iPhone 4 users of iOS 5.1.1 with a different build number (9B208). This new build was released one day after the Untethered Jailbreak was released for iOS 5.1.1 for all the iDevices. Amazing thing about this build was that, it had no change log and Apple didn’t release it in iTunes as an official update. Still this mysterious build was a big question mark for the users having iPhone 4 GSM.

This new mysterious release by Apple was soon PWNED by the Jailbreak hackers. The Chronic-Dev Team released an update for Absinthe for the support of this Firmware for iPhone 4 GSM. Following the release of Absinthe, ih8sn0w also updated his tool Sn0wbreeze to a newer version of 2.9.5 with the support of this iOS 5.1.1 (9B208) Untethered Jailbreak. The change log of the latest version of Sn0wbreeze is as follow:

    What is New?

    • Added 5.1.1/9B208 untether payload for the iPhone 4 GSM.
    • Added iPhone 3GS (iPad Baseband users) location services fix.

    A5(X) Support?:

As stated many times in the past, sn0wbreeze cannot be updated to work on A5(X) devices until a low level exploit in DFU or iBoot is found and made public. Therefore, A5(X) users will have to rely on using the lovely absinthe.

    A5(X) Baseband Preservation/Hacktivation?

For those running A5(X) devices and need to preserve your baseband, there is nothing you can do at the moment. For those wanting to hacktivate, the only advice I can give is to buy the carrier’s SIM (the one its locked to obviously) on ebay. The SIM does not have to be active with the carrier to activate the phone.

Report any issues to iH8sn0w via Email (iH8sn0w@iH8sn0w.com) or Twitter (@iH8sn0w)

This new version of Sn0wbreeze includes, location Services fix with iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak support for iPhone 4 and iPad baseband support for iPhone 3GS users.

Now what is this Location Services Fix?

Location services is a service given by Apple in its iDevices that locate you where you are and tags you on that location or tells you nearby friends or so. Mainly this is a service, which is used by your Camera.App and some other Apps. In camera.App it tags the location on the Map at the location on which the image was taken.

This might sound new to you, but your iPhone when fully restored to factory settings ask you for this option when you open a Camera.App or any other App that have this function in it to allow or this allow this service to have your current location.

Without wasting any time, you can download the latest version of Sn0wbreeze from here.

Thanks to Dheeraj for sharing the news with us.

  • Apple Released New Version of iOS 5.1.1 (9B208) for iPhone 4 (Stay Away)

Apple Released New Version of iOS 5.1.1 (9B208) for iPhone 4 (Stay Away)

Earlier today, Apple released a new update for the iPhone 4 quietly with a new build number 9B208 for iPhone 4 only. The previous build of the iPhone 4 iOS 5.1.1 was 9B206. It is unclear that why Apple released this new build for iPhone 4 users only. The amazing thing is that they haven’t released any change log for this build. This means that this build got no major changes like Jailbreak issues fixed or so. Still it is very early to say anything about his build because we haven’t tested it personally and no words have been said by the Dev-Team regarding the Untethered Jailbreak for this new build version.

Apple has done the same thing with iPhone 4S in past to encounter Signal issues and no SIM issues on iOS 5.0.1(9A405) build. They released iOS 5.0.1(9A406) to encounter all these issues on this new build. They also didn’t release any change log for that new build for iPhone 4S users. Till now this new build is for iPhone 4 users only of iOS 5.1.1 (9B208). It might get some little issues fixed, about which we don’t know.

Any ways, if you people want to have the Untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4, that was released the day before, we recommended you to save your SHSH Blobs. If you couldn’t save them, still it is time to save them before Apple stops signing iOS 5.1.1(9B206). If you are planning to update to iOS 5.1.1 (8b206), stay away from the update and save your SHSH Blobs because the Untethered Jailbreak might not work on this new build.

If you rely on Unlock, we would strongly recommend you people to stay away from this new build and refrain from updating for the time being. We will be coming up with a baseband preservation tutorial by tonight. Till then you people can save your SHSH Blobs for iOS 5.1.1 before it is too late.

The amazing thing is that this build is not available vi iTunes update. So you people are on safe side. Still, don’t forget to save your SHSH Blobs.

Today the Chronic-Dev Team with the Dev-Team released the new version of the flagship tool, Absinthe2.0. Absinthe2.0 is the tool for which many of the users were waiting for long and @Pod2g was working on it for a long time. Just to make the dream come true with the Dream Team, @pod2g had to face some issues with the Untethered Jailbreak to make it possible. The support for iPhone 3GS and iPod 3G was said to missed at first. But now the support is included for those two Devices as well. This new release of Absinthe2.0 will Untethered Jailbreak almost every Device from iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod 4, and iPod 3G on iOS 5.1.1.

The release of this Absinthe2.0 flagship tool was expected to release this Friday, at HITB conference held in Amsterdam, where @pod2g and all other Chronic-Dev Team members with @MuscleNerd went for a talk regarding the Jailbreak and baseband Unlock. • Absinthe2.0 Untethered Jailbreak coming this Friday on HITB (Possibly)

Absinthe2.0 Untethered Jailbreak coming this Friday on HITB (Possibly)

The Untethered Jailbreak Fever started this previous with some amazing news coming from the iOS hackers. This previous week was really an important and impressive week for the people waiting for the Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 and iOS hackers making the dream come true of all those people waiting for the Untethered Jailbreak.  In the start of this week, we informed you about the latest tidbits and the latest updates from @MuscleNerd and @Pod2g, these are the Two hackers with the rest of the team working on the iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak. They updated their respective blog this past Sunday with some important information regarding the Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 with its compatibility and who can update to iOS 5.1.1. If you have missed it you can check it out from here.

Another great news that we heard from the French iOS Hacker, @pod2g was that the Untethered Jailbreak is ready and they will be releasing the Untethered Jailbreak within this week. The tools were said to be Absinthe2.0 and Redsn0w to support iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak. The video of Asbinthe2.0 in action also surfaced the web.

After the video of Asbinthev2.0 surfaced the web, it made one thing clear that the release in few days. Ironically, the Chronic-Dev Team with Dev-Team member, @MuscleNerd are going to HITB (Hack in the Box) conference held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The team of iOS hacker’s have got keynote’s scheduled for the conference at HITB that strongly point out towards the release of the Untethered Jailbreak during their conference at HITB, Amsterdam.

    hitb-absinthev2

Now what is this HITB of which we are taking name from beginning. Lets have some little knowledge about it.

Having started as a small gathering of Malaysian security specialists in 2002, the event has since expanded out of its home base in Kuala Lumpur to Dubai and in 2010, The Netherlands. Our events are put together by a team of dedicated crew and volunteers and through the continued support of our sponsors; HITBSecConf has grown into the largest network security conference in the Asia Pacific and Middle East region!

The main aim of our conferences has always been to enable the dissemination, discussion and sharing of deep knowledge network security information. Our main focus is on new and groundbreaking attack and defense methods that have not been seen or discussed in public before. HITBSecConf events bring together a unique mix of security professionals, researchers, law enforcement and members of the hacker underground under one roof and our flagship event in Malaysia sees over 1000 attendees.

After having some knowledge about HITB, lets move back to our topic.

According to the HITB schedule of the conference for Friday, 25th May 2012, The Chronic Dev-Team members, Joshua Hill (@P0sixninja), Cyril (@Pod2g), and Nikias Bassen (@Pimskeks) are lined up for a keynote session on the Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 using Corona. The time at which they are lined up is 11:30AM C.E.T Time.

Then at 12:30PM, the conference will hung up for a break. After the break, the legend of the Jailbreak community, David Wang (@planetbeing) will join The Chronic-Dev Team to talk about the Absinthe Jailbreak that they released for iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Here cultofmac notes that they will be revealing about the making of Absinthe and implementation of it.

The moment in which they will be announcing the Untethered Jailbreak via Absinthe2.0 seems to be the phase in which they will be telling about the Absinthe Tool.

Absinthe2.0 is expected to Jailbreak Untethered all the iDevices except, Apple TV 3.

Don’t forget that @MuscleNerd will be taking the stage before The Chronic-Dev-Team on 24th May, Thursday. He would be talking about the Evolution of iPhone Baseband and Unlocks. We might see something interesting over there also.

Now the timing is very crucial. The HITB is taking place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, so it is very necessary to know about the time difference between your Country and Netherlands.

The time in EST for the conference is 7:30AM, PST 4:30 AM U.S time on 25th of May 2012,Friday. Rest you can check your time zone by going here and choosing the day, then the location that will be Amsterdam in the above one, and in the end one your location. Once done, simply press convert and you will get the time for the release of the Jailbreak.

We are sure that you don’t want to miss this event. Just Subscribe and Follow us.

  • The Only Tweak That Performs All The Actions in an iPhone

The Only Tweak That Performs All The Actions in an iPhone

The only button that closes all the application, enables multi-tasking, jumps back from wiggly mode to normal mode, helps in taking a screen shot, waking up from sleep, enables music right on the lock screen, and for iphone4s users (and for those who have spire installed on non 4s devices) holding it activates SIRI. Yes it’s the Home Button. The Home Button is the only button in iOS Devices that performs all the functions, where as in non-iOS Devices, there is a button assigned for every single function. As we told you that iOS Devices got only Home Button, so some people actually use the home button very roughly and in that case they have to press the home button harder to respond.

There are many guides out there on how to make your home button working again, some might ask you to open your iPhone/iPod touch, which many users don’t want to. Some would say to press the home button harder to recalibrate it that is even bad but works for some.
For your benefit and after a bit of digging around in the iPhone we found out that you can actually use the home button without even pressing the home button itself. The technique must not be new, but it worth saving few $ that you will be spending on the fix of the home button.

Follow the complete guide below on how to save few $ of repairing your Home Button.

First of all you’ll need a jail-broken IPhone/IPod touch and Cydia installed.
You won’t be requiring any source to add, so don’t worry just go in Cydia and download a tweak named “Activator”. Usually users already have this application tweak installed when they install “SBSettings”, the “Activator” downloads and installs automatically.

Now the main part, how to configure “Activator”

    Step 1:

Go in Cydia and search for “Activator” Install it.

After you’re done installing Activator, the phone will respring.

    Step 2:

Go in settings and you’ll get this Activator under settings.

    Step 3:

Now tap on Activator. After that, Tap on “Anywhere” which will be visible right after you open activator.

    Step 4:

Now scroll down to “slide in Gestures” (this is to enable MULTI-TASKING BAR without using the home button).

Now tap the “From Screen Bottom” the first option in the Slide in Gesture. After that you’ll get a lot of options scroll down till you see “Activate Switcher” which will be under the system actions.

After selecting it. Return back to the top and you’ll see something like this. Which assures you that now after you slide in from bottom on the springboard gently you’ll activate the Multi-tasking

    Step 5:

    Assigning the home button.

Go back to the Anywhere screen and scroll down till you see “Status Bar” Under status bar chose “Swipe Right”.

Then scroll down and look for Home button (for users who have SBSettings installed, un-assign SBSettings from swipe right).

After selecting it, go back to the top and you’ll see this, which assure that ANYWHERE where you have your status bar (whether its in landscape mode or portrait mode Swipe right from the Time and it’ll act like a Home Button. Which you can also use for taking screen shots but pressing the Sleep button and swiping right at the same time.

    Step 6:

    Assigning the Sleep Button:
It’s the same thing, go back to the Anywhere screen and look for Status bar and under status bar this time choose Hold

Under hold, go and search for Sleep Button and select that.

When you’re done scroll up to the top and you’ll see Sleep button assigned with holding the status bar for 2 seconds or less. (It also works in both Portrait and Landscape mode) Where ever the Status bar is visible.

    Step 7:

(For IPhone 4s Users and Those users who have Spire working on their non 4S devices, also includes iPad/ipad2)

Select Activator, go in anywhere and scroll down till you see Status bar, under it select single tap And then scroll down and search for Virtual assistant. Select that and your done. Single tap on the status bar will activate SIRI without pressing the home button.

This method is for those who have problems using the home button, or in our case we don’t press the home button, we use these Activator gestures and our home button is Safe.
